Hello dear readers,
No, I am not talking about gems of the sparkly nature but rather a quaint wooden ferry.
This sweet wooden boat was built in 1947 and originally plied the waters between Palm Beach and Patonga and the Hawkesbury River (Sydney, Australia)...serving the "Riverboat Mail Run"
Originally called "The Westhead", she is now berthed at Gem Pier, Williamstown, Victoria...and has been re-named "Little Gem".
She still goes out on half day cruises for those that love to experience the charm and romance of a bygone era.
Today I am linking up to Texture Tuesday with our host Kim Klassen
The challenge this week was to include two of Kim's textures in our photo...I included the rustic crackle of "Crackerjack" and "Vintage" textures.
Head on over to join in the fun.
Cheers,
Jenni

Texture Tuesday - a Touch of Red.
Hello dear readers,
Today I am linking up to Kim Klassen - Texture Tuesday. This week is all about the colour red....I chose to have just a "touch of red" in my contribution this week.
My parents in law had a great selection of slides of their 8 children.
To make better use of the slides, my Mother in law, Molly, had a lot of them transferred to discs and then gave a disc to each child. A much better idea for the preservation of those treasured memories.
I really love the old pictures.....it is so great to look at the young children in those photos.... children who I have only known as adults.

This is Greg.....having fun on his large 3 -wheeler.
This was a' pre - training wheel' type of bike, for the young children not quite ready for the 'danger' of a two-wheeler! And just look at those cute, red, short overalls!
By the way, Greg is now in his 50's and doing a PhD.

I used 2 different layers from Kim Klassen to texture and age this photo. ( I have mis-placed the written list of the textures I used - sorry- will need to be more organised in future!)
\The original...I cropped it a little...goodbye large pole and most of the house roof!
The other family slide I have used in this way, was the 'Yesteryear' edition.- Kangaroo Feeding Time.
Have a look if you wish...
To see more photos of the red edition, please click on the Texture Tuesday picture on my blog side-bar and it will take you direct to the cafe at Kim's site. ( photos may not be up yet...just keep looking!)
Cheers for now,

Yesteryear - kangaroo feeding time
Hello dear friends,
Today I am participating in a challenge organised by Kim Klassen with her 'Texture Tuesday' friends.
The photo below is a copy from a slide taken of my sister in law as a child, about 40 years ago. As you can see she is feeding a kangaroo (probably bread).
This is in a country area some distance from Melbourne.
Kangaroos, are really only found in rural areas .
They spend most of the day resting in the shade, and tend to come out in the cool of the morning or at dusk to feed.
I am not entirely sure what time of day this photo was taken, possibly late afternoon.
The car in the photo, a Dodge, was, I believe a recent purchase at the time.
On the above photo, I have -

On the above photo, I have -
- used Kims' Texture, 'yesteryear' on Soft Light blend mode at 100% opacity
- used a second texture layer of 'yesteryear' on Multiply blend mode at 85%
- added a warming filter at 85%
- selectively put a little color back in the kangaroo
- eliminated a large stick and a partial face in the front of the car.
The original photo taken from a slide.
And just for fun, I thought I would tell you a few lesser known facts about the Australian Kangaroo -
There are 47 varieties of kangaroo ranging in size from a kg (1lb) to 85kg approx (300lb).
- They usually have one young annually. The joey remains in the pouch for nine months and continues to suckle until 12 - 17 months of age. Kangaroos can have up to 3 babies at one time. One becoming mature and just out of the pouch, another developing in the pouch and one embryo in pause mode. There are 4 teats in the pouch and each provides different milk for the different stages of development. ( The embryo will remain dormant until the previous young has left the pouch)
Isn't that an amazing feat of nature!!
- Kangaroos are herbivores, they need little water to survive and some species are capable of going for months without drinking at all. (if grass is available)
- The kangaroo can hop at speed up to 60kmh (40mph)
- The kangaroo, in combination with the emu were chosen as symbols of Australia ( they are on our Coat of Arms) to represent the country's progress because they are always moving forward and never move backwards.
And on that note, I too will move forward, and finish this post and move on with my day....
Please click on the Texture Tuesday picture logo on my blog side bar to see more lovely texture photos.

First Texture.
Hello dear readers,
I have come to the world of Kim Klassen through the wonderful, sharing blogging community.
Kim teaches online photoshop courses and also has a "TextureTuesday" site where people can "texturise" their photos and re-post them for viewing.
This is the first time I have ever done this, as I am a real novice at photoshop, so please be kind...!
I actually watched x2 videos by Kim first before attempting this fun process and found them to be very helpful.

"Remembering Molly"
The original color of this saucer was actually pale green.
To give the photo that misty, aged appearance, I used two texture layers made by Kim.
These were 'Sweet Treat' and 'Silence'
What a fab effect, isn't it?
I can't wait to give it another go.
Please click on the sidebar icon for Texture Tuesdays" to see other photos that people have texturised and to read more about Kim's site.
Until next time,
