I Heart Macro- a strange plant!

Hello dear friends,

It's  I heart Macro Sunday again, and I heart macro! I took photos of this very strange plant over a neighbours fence, as you do - if anyone knows what it is called, I would really like to know. I am having a guess it is in the Lily family?

For anyone who does not know, "I Heart Macro" is for those anyone who enjoy taking macro and close up photos. It can be a photo of anything that you find appealing, it does not have to be plants or flowers.
One week I took a photo of my floor mop! Not too sure if anyone realised it was that!

    Happy May 1st to you. What you have here is a Canna, it is not a true lily, though is looks like one. They are related to the ginger and banana group of plants. Check it out on Wikipedia for more info.

    Regina, thanks for that, I was hoping a garden loving person would know!
    It just had so many interesting bits! Presumably the bright green thing is a seed pod only a newer version of the other? Thanks again,

    That is an interesting flower... I love all the different stages of it. The seeds are such a brilliant color of blue... what a rainbow of colors! Thanks for sharing that one.. I am headed to wikipedia to check it out!

    Hi Marian, yes the multiple stages of the plant in such close proximity was what first captured my eye. And of course the vivid colors! The seeds I am sorry to say are black, not blue.

    Jenni, I bought the same plant for my last garden under the name blackberry lily because if the berry-like seed pods, but I don't know its formal name.
    Congrats and best wishes on your retirement! Is it too much to hope that you might now have time to make some beads to offer for sale? People were ape for your beads in my bead soup piece.
