Focus on Life - week 5 - Capture our hearts.

Hello friends,

It has been a while between posts. Preparing my home for sale has kept me busy!

Today, I am joining in to  Focusing on Life - 52 photos- a photo a week throughout the year. The prompt for the week was 'capture our hearts'. I have interpreted this in a literal sense... so here are a few I found.....

A heart made from vintage velvet hanging on a cupboard in my daughter's room.

Hearts made from an old atlas... you can see more about these here.

A glass paperweight.. you know how I love my paperweights!

And because I missed out on joining in last week, here is a little something I made during the week....my first stone set in a sterling bezel which I made by following the instructions on a DVD by
Lexie Erickson. ( The stone is a dendritic agate)

Last week was all about creating art... making jewellery is where my creative heart is at the moment, it is my art.

Here is a heart I made a while back from copper and resin.

And if you pop on over to the studio sublime you can check out all the other lovely hearts.

That's it from me today, folks,

have a good weekend,

I Heart Macro- A Different Era.

Hello dear readers,

Welcome to my Sunday post of I Heart macro - hosted by Lori from Studio Waterstone.

Did you guess what it was?

Just noticed there is a dead spider attached to the ribbon!

Partially exposed on the left is my computer wireless system...talk about juxtaposition of old and new!

This lovely old typewriter has seen plenty of work and love over the years, and remarkably, still works.
No, it was not mine...but a gift from an elderly friend.

I did once learn to type...at school.....and I was terribly bad at it.
The teacher, in desperation put paper over the keys so I wouldn't look at them! That worked well!
I then typed total drivel...and still didn't remember where the keys were located. I just don't think my heart was ever in it....and I still type with 2 fingers and look at the keys to this day!

My father was a journalist and I remember the constant tap-tap of the keys at home....he had one like this once.....it was much quieter when he became all modern and purchased an electric typewriter. I missed that re-assuring sound, but I think my Mother was glad to hear the end of it!

A Gift

Just recently I was given this old typewriter.
It doesn't work of course, the top part (? Name) has seized and I can't imagine the ribbon is any good.

My original idea was to take off the round keys and make them in to a bracelet.
However after protest from the family and realizing how difficult this actually would be, I gave up on the idea pretty quickly, so now it is a rather large 'ornament' around the home!

My father was a journalist who used to write on his typewriter at home.
I remember the constant "tip-tap" coming from his work room.
Originally he did have a typewriter similar in style to this one.
The typewriter models became updated through the years until finally, he had a very quiet, electric typewriter and that background tip-tap noise disappeared.

I compare that way of writing; noisy and a little messy (the dreaded carbon paper!), with the ease of use of this iPad.

Will the iPad still be around in 50 years or will it too, become a writing tool antique?!

Cheers,
Jenni
